Process & Care

All of my ceramic work is made by hand. Most of the time I am using terra cotta clay a.k.a. earthenware, on a pottery wheel. Some things like the Doodle Dishes are hand built with slabs.
The initial bisque firing takes 48 hours from start to finish and this is where the greenware is fired to 1,810 degrees Fahrenheit to make it less fragile and porous for glazing.

The work is then dipped in glaze which I have mixed by hand earlier, and hand painted and/or carved using an ancient Italian pottery decoration method called Maiolica. The final glaze firing happens in an electric kiln where it is fired to 2,016 degrees Fahrenheit.

All of my ceramics are food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe though hand washing is recommended as it will help ensure the longevity of your handmade ceramic treasure. The dishwasher is a very intense environment!
